Chinese electric vehicle (EV) startup Xpeng is entering the Australian market in late 2024 with the G6 SUV, a direct competitor to the popular Tesla Model Y. TrueEV will be the exclusive distributor for Xpeng in Australia.
The G6, unveiled in 2023, boasts Xpeng's latest Smart Electric Platform Architecture (SEPA) 2.0 and 800V electrical architecture for fast charging.

Xpeng G6 Key Specifications
With dimensions nearly identical to the Model Y, the G6 offers a choice of battery packs. The 66kWh battery delivers a 435km WLTP range and DC charging up to 215kW. The larger 87.5kWh battery extends the range to 550km and supports even faster 280kW DC charging.
Powertrain options include rear-wheel drive with a single motor or all-wheel drive with dual motors. The most potent AWD Performance variant boasts 350kW of power and 660Nm of torque, enabling a 0-100km/h sprint in just 4.1 seconds.
Xpeng G6 Key Features
The G6 stands out with its vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability, allowing you to power appliances on the go. European specifications include desirable features like a panoramic roof, heated/ventilated seats, a premium sound system, and a heated steering wheel.

Xpeng G6 Competition
The Xpeng G6 is a mid size SUV that will compete with the Tesla Model Y, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, and Ford Mustang Mach-E. It is expected to undercut the Tesla Model Y RWD which starts at $60,900 before on-road costs.
Xpeng's Global Ambitions
Xpeng aims to become a major player in the global EV market. They are partnering with Volkswagen on EVs and plan a new brand for younger buyers.
Founded in 2014, Xpeng has a growing vehicle lineup including the G3 SUV, the larger G9 SUV, the P5 and P7 sedans, and the X9 people mover. Initially focused on China, they are now expanding globally.

Xpeng joins a wave of Chinese brands entering the Australian market. These include established Chinese brands like BYD, GWM, and Chery, alongside Western brands acquired by Chinese companies, such as LDV, Lotus, MG, and Volvo. Chery and Geely (Volvo's owner) are also launching new EV brands in Australia later in 2024.
