Do electric cars need servicing? Yes, electric cars require less maintenance than petrol cars. Each manufacturer has unique scheduled servicing conditions, pricing, and intervals.
Electric Car Servicing Costs Compared by Model
Below we've compared the average costs of servicing over 5 years across all (almost) EV models available in Australia.
The average cost relevant to you will be based on which interval you reach first - time (months) or distance (kilometres).
A few interesting observations:
- Tesla vehicles do not have fixed or scheduled servicing intervals, instead, they provide a recommended maintenance schedule for several items.
- Hyundai and Kona EVs have the most conservative scheduled servicing intervals, earlier of 12 months or 15,000 kilometres.
- Volvo and Polestar have the most relaxed scheduled servicing intervals, earlier of 24 months or 30,000 kilometres. They come with 5-years free servicing.
Electric cars on scheduled servicing have on average 5% (per 12 months) and 35% (per 10,000 km) lower costs compared to the petrol cars (next section). This does not include maintenance costs which are likely to be higher on average with petrol cars.
