Amber has partnered with BYD to offer an exclusive 6% discount on a new BYD Atto 3 for customers who purchase one and join Amber's vehicle-to-grid (V2G) program.
The offer sits alongside Amber's ARENA-funded V2G rollout, which is expanding to 1,000 homes and is the largest residential V2G program of its kind in Australia.
Which BYD models are eligible
BYD is currently the only manufacturer providing full warranty coverage for V2G use in the program. Eligible vehicles are:
- BYD Atto 3 (all models)
- BYD Sealion 7
The 6% new-vehicle discount applies to the Atto 3. The Sealion 7 is eligible for the V2G program itself, with BYD warranty support.
What else you get in the program
- A discounted V2G charger through an authorised installer. The StarCharge Halo is currently $2,990 including GST for a single-phase 7.4kW charger with standard install, or $4,490 for a three-phase 11kW charger with standard install.
- A BYD warranty exemption covering V2G use on eligible models.
- Early access to Amber's V2G app and SmartShift automation.
Why V2G is worth considering
With a bidirectional charger, your EV works like a home battery, only bigger. You can charge on excess solar or cheap overnight energy, then power your home or export back to the grid when wholesale prices spike.
Amber estimates customers on wholesale rates can save around $2,000 to $2,500 a year on energy bills, assuming solar and no home battery. There are no minimum plug-in times, and you can set a "ready by" time so the car has the charge you need when you leave.
What you need to qualify
- A V2G-capable EV (Atto 3 or Sealion 7)
- A compatible bidirectional charger, purchased new through the program
- An Amber electricity subscription to access the V2G technology
Program commitments
The program runs for a minimum of 12 months from the date of onboarding. Participants agree to stay with Amber as their energy retailer at the supply address for at least 12 months, take part in research activities such as surveys and possible interviews, and allow Amber to share anonymised data with ARENA for public reporting.

- Confirm you own or are planning to buy an eligible BYD.
- Book a site assessment and quote with an Amber authorised installer.
- Accept the quote and have the charger installed.
- Sign up with Amber and download the V2G app to get onboarded.
- Plug in and let SmartShift handle the rest.
