How we work out your charging speed

Home charging speed is set by whichever is lowest of three things: your car's onboard charger, the charger itself and your home's power supply. A 22 kW three-phase charger won't charge a car with a 7.4 kW single-phase onboard charger any faster, and a three-phase charger on a single-phase home is limited to one phase.

We calculate the speed as 230 V × current × phases used, then rank chargers that fit your budget and must-haves, cheapest first. Outdoor installs only show chargers rated IP54 or better.
