Chinese EV maker Xpeng has claimed a major milestone with its newly unveiled P7 electric sedan, completing almost 4,000 kilometres in a 24-hour test and setting a new global endurance record for a pure electric vehicle.
The company revealed that the test was conducted at a circuit in Changchun, Jilin Province, where the P7 covered 3,961 km in a single day under third-party verification. The result demonstrates the car’s efficiency and fast-charging capability, both key factors in long-distance EV travel.

Overcoming Weather and Showcasing Efficiency
Xpeng said the initial attempt at the challenge had to be abandoned due to heavy rain and flooding on the track. The second test went ahead with multiple fast-charging sessions, which highlighted the advantages of the car’s 800 V high-voltage platform.
The P7’s aerodynamic design and robust thermal management system helped it maintain efficiency across the 24-hour period. At one point, the car also reached speeds of over 210 km/h on the track, showcasing its performance credentials.

What Comes Next
While full specifications are still under wraps, the P7 is expected to mirror technology from Xpeng’s G7 SUV, including ultra-fast charging and advanced driver-focused features.
Images shared by the brand show a sporty interior with bucket-style seats and a compact steering wheel, further signalling its performance-oriented approach. Pricing and additional details are expected in the coming weeks.

Why it matters for Australia
Although Xpeng is yet to enter the Australian market, its rapid innovation and record-setting achievements highlight the pace of EV development in China. With growing local demand for premium EVs, brands like Xpeng could soon become part of Australia’s expanding electric vehicle landscape.
