The duo claim that they will launch Australia's first public vehicle-to-grid (V2G) EV charger at a South Australian CBD site in September 2024, allowing EV drivers to earn real-time payments for discharging energy into the grid.
It's great to hear about small Australian companies innovating like this, let's see how the trial works in real life. zecar will keep readers up to date with the results.
A V2Grid Australia spokesperson told me that their trial site will allow EV drivers to park, plug-in and discharge energy to earn real time payments based on the live market electricity rate.
Matthew Downie said V2Grid Australia will offer a grassroots solution to a larger economic and environmental problem by using smart charging technology.
"This technology not only powers EVs but also serves as backup storage for the electrical grid, addressing a looming environmental and economic issue".
"Whether it’s to provide electricity to support a household in a blackout, an EV owner looking to give back to the grid for financial return or simply to lessen the impact of the rising cost of living, this technology has the power to do it all."
"Our CBD site, which will go live from late September, is almost as easy as tap and go – it’s a park, plug-in and get paid model that has never been seen before".
A global car manufacturer has developed a one-off specialist electric vehicle for V2Grid Australia to rigorously test their smart charger so that it can be made saleable.
James Murray said V2Grid Australia had an immediate commitment for manufacturing their charger product with scalability front of mind.
Matthew and James have already begun discussions with corporate partners to rollout a network of pilot sites for vehicle-to-grid technology across South Australia.
